PhD Research Scholarship in Myopia - School of Optometry and Vision Science

The Auckland Myopia Laboratory is seeking a motivated individual to conduct research leading to the award of a PhD. The area of research is Myopia/refractive development of the eye. We are looking for an Optometrist to join our Ophthalmology team at Wairau Hospital supporting a population of around 50,000. This is a permanent, part-time position working four hours a week.

 

Our Ophthalmology departments, at both Wairau and Nelson Hospitals, are contemporary services based on a team of Ophthalmologists who have general and subspecialist training, specialist nurses, orthoptists, optometrists and technicians. Our comprehensive suites including OCT, Fields, Photography, and Lasers and our operating theatres are equipped with modern microscopes and Alcon Centurion Phakoemulsification equipment. The service provides the highest standard of care for our patients.

You will have a Bachelor of Optometry (BOptom) degree, or recognised equivalent qualification, and will be registered with the New Zealand Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Board.

The School of Optometry and Vision Science is a part of the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences. We are the only Optometry school in New Zealand, and one of six schools in the region with accreditation from the Optometry Council of Australia and New Zealand. Our accreditation enables graduates to practise optometry in New Zealand and in Australia without the need to undertake additional examinations. The university operates a full scope optometry clinic, with a large and diverse patient base, at its Grafton campus as well as external clinics at other sites throughout Auckland.
