Stars and their eyes… Justin Bieber

Canadian pop star Justin Bieber is suffering facial paralysis on one side of his face and has been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome. In a short Instagram video, Bieber demonstrated that he can only smile, nostril-twitch and blink on one side of his face. The singer said he is optimistic he will make a full recovery and is resting and doing facial exercises to get his face back to normal.

Ramsay Hunt, a rare neurological complication caused by the varicella-zoster virus, is typically treated with antiviral medications and steroids. Eye lubricants and artificial tears can be used to relieve dry eye from the lack of blinking, while sleeping requires taping of the affected eye.

The 28-year-old cancelled performances in Toronto, Washington DC and New York and had postponed the rest of his ‘Justice’ tour in North America at the time of press.
